For past 5 years, 3D animation has evolved into a tool for creating realistic effects and it pushes boundaries of live action films. It allows the freedom in animations where everything can happen into realistic environment. It makes impossible camera angle shots possible. It accomplishes the stunt that was too dangerous to perform. Today, nearly 7 out of 10 commercials on the TV are created in 3D animation.
For my thesis, I will create a series of short animations that achieves special effects often seen on TV commercials and movies today. The realistic special effects can vary from car crash to meteor shower. The target audiences for this thesis are people ranging from the age 18 to 27. They are people who enjoy the thrills. They be pleased of films bring the scenarios and drama in the movie allow them to get lost temporarily away from their mundane life
Most of these short animation effects will be done in Autodesk Maya 8. I will start off with modeling, then move on to texturing, rigging, animating, and finally lighting. Modeled parts will be furnished in another 3D program called ZBrush. Some of these animations will be composed with real life footage, enhancing the realistic feel in the animation. My goal for this project is to create realistic animation that is difficult to film in real life.
